It's a Marathon, not a race...

No, I am not running a marathon! Yet...

Starting this new healthy living journey can be trying especially in the beginning. Questioning everything you eat, should you have had that glass of wine, did you work out enough, will the scale move by next Thursday? Is it worth it? This FitGirlsGuide.com has been very influential for me at the beginning of this journey. As I continue to document in my fitness pal what I am eating, I really like that the journal focuses on more than what did I eat and what exercise did I complete, there is also a focus on being kind to myself, being proud of myself and accepting what may have not gone perfectly, notice I did not say wrong, just not perfectly.

Why is this a focus? I met a friend over the weekend for drinks that I have not had the opportunity to see in a while and it reminded me of how important it is to take the time to connect or reconnect with people you love. In doing so, there is going to be wine, appetizers, desserts, not perfect days. That's okay. Joy and happiness is the true end goal on this journey, happy with myself and those I surround myself. That same morning I joined friends for coffee after Dance Trance. Should l have had that chai latte? Probably not, but it was so worth it for the laughter, joy, and connections that were made. It was such a great way to start the weekend.

I have learned this week that water does play a very big role in my health and I can utilize water to help me when I think I am hungry but in reality I am just stressed, anxious, or bored. A big glass of water has helped reduce my desire to eat. The other thing that has helped with that, Gracie! Yes, Gracie. I will take a break from what I am doing and take her for a walk or playtime and if I am still hungry, my refrigerator is now filled with healthier options of foods that I still enjoy. Things like, avacado, hummus, carrots, cashews, blueberries, harvest snaps, and skinny pop have become snacks and options that I look forward to and know are available.

Thank you to my sorority sister, Lacey... this mile a day challenge has made me very mindful of my steps and made my want to challenge myself to go faster, do more and do better. So in addition to Dance Trance, I make sure I am getting in my mile or two or three a day, rain or shine, hot or cold! It's happening!!! Every day!

I have also decided to make my "check in" days on Thursday each week. It is helping me stay accountable Friday-Wednesday to not have a "cheat day" but really be mindful all of the time, remembering this is a lifestyle and not a diet. Success is what you make it.

Who knows, maybe there will be a 5k in my future?!? We will see!
